A “new arrival" corresponds here to an animal or plant species which is recorded outside its distribution area, due to a natural reason or due to human activities. These species are referred to as "NNS" for "non-native species" by scientists. They are interesting to spot on the coast, and to report to scientists and public authorities because their progression rate and new area(s) of occurrence provide really important information to help to control and manage them! Make your observations, all year long and everywhere along your coasts, walking, shipping or by scuba diving.

Prepare your field trip by studying the description of new introduced species (below).

Go to the shore and note the date and time you start your observation.

Note the name of the observation site and any landmark. Then take a picture of the seascape: look at the sea if you are on land or turn to land if you are at sea.

Take pictures for each non-native species.
